Long Time Coming

My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding anniversary. This quilt didn't take as long to make but because I put the squares away for so long it still comes in at the longest amount of time from beginning to end for me--22 years. Luckily I still had most of the fabrics so I could make two extra blocks. I did discover that 22 years ago my eyesight was better and my stitches were smaller but all my work is simply for family so that doesn't matter or bother me much.

My husband didn't remember this so the whole thing was a surprise and a delight to him. Not bad after so many years.

Glad I Am Not There

Yesterday Salt Lake City ground to a stop. Officially they only got 8 inches of snow but the weather service monitor is out at the airport where the snow is not as thick anyway. One son sent a photo of the snow piled on a bench in the back yard and it looked like at least 12 inches and it was still falling. All the schools were closed. All county and city services except the snow plows were stopped. FedEx didn't deliver. I know that last one because we sent something to our youngest for his upcoming wedding and honeymoon and it did not get delivered.

Since Utah gets most of its water from snow melt, the snow is not a bad thing, but sometimes it is hard to deal with. The house we sold last spring was in a desirable location for many reasons but one of the primary ones was that it was on a street that got plowed first no matter what. There is a hierarchy of plowing on the streets that involves schools, churches, grocery stores, etc., but our old house sat on the road that led up to the salt storage silo so all the plows had to go up and down so the street had to be clear from the beginning. Two doctors bought our old house and really liked that factor because they could get to work more easily than from their previous house that was on a non-priority street.

Still, I am glad I am here where the temperature is about 45F and there was some slight overnight precipitation. We aren't lacking in water but we don't have to shovel either.
